About Marilyn Strickland

Marilyn Strickland was sworn in as Mayor in 2010. She is Chair of the Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners, and an executive committee member of the Economic Development Board. As a member of the US Conference of Mayors Public Education Task Force, she is an advocate for meaningful innovation in the public school system. Strickland is co-chair of WorkForce Central, a public-private partnership to improve workforce training. Active in the community, she is a member of the Black Collective and served on the boards of KBTC Public TV Association and the Grand Cinema. “At the end of the day, it all comes down to education. If we want to reduce crime, grow our business sector and have vibrant cities, we need strong schools,” says Strickland.
